Quick Translation of Matsuyuki Yasuko's Interview for Perfect Report

Taken from Fuji TV

1. Q: You are the anchor actress for the inaugural drama for the new time slot "Dramatic Sunday".
A: It's a great honour, but I feel the pressure at the same time. "A new time slot for Sunday, I hope that it will be a production that will give an extra energy boost for people going to work on Monday", that's what I've asked of producer Ota. I really hoped that this can become an interesting production that has not been produced before.

2. Q: What kind of character is "Aoyama"?
A: A lady who can't speak her mind clearly, quite a socially awkward character. She sticks out like a sore thumb in the society or organisation, and it would really help if she can be adept at dealing with situations and people...there are plenty of situations that I think are like this. Aoyama believes that she shouldn't compromise on her beliefs in her life, but this stance has ended up isolating her from the people around her. But she knowingly and daringly made this decision. I think she's an interesting character.

3. Q: A person like Aoyama, who is persistent in finding out the truth...
A:Yes. But to only go for the truth, is that the right thing to do in the end? I think I have tried to find the answer to the question with first-hand experience while playing the role of Aoyama.

4. Q: What about your real off-screen character, Matsuyuki-san?
A: I think there are areas where Aoyama and I are alike. I don't really socialise with anybody, just like a lone wolf. I can totally understand her position. Also, when I get started on something, I don't like to get lost along the way. I focus on the goal, and put in everything I can to reach my goal. I guess that's where Aoyama and I are alike.

5. Q: How about areas where you are different?
A: I think I don't say things out as bluntly as Aoyama (laughs). I do speak my mind at times, but I think I am more adept at dealing with people (laughs). Aoyama, I think she's a really exaggerated character, in a certain sense, a very enjoyable role for me. I get to say things that I normally can't get around saying. (laughs)

6. Q: Aoyama is always eating dried cuttlefish.
A: I think she does that to relieve stress while focusing really hard on things, but she seems to do that all the time. I don't have the habit of eating dried cuttlefish in real life, and it felt odd at first, but I got used to it as the filming went on.

7. Q: So what's your regular snack?
A: Sour plum seaweed. (laughs) I really like it. I can unknowingly eat a pack of it in 30 seconds. But the same goes for Aoyama, she seems to able to stimulate her brains when she's chewing on tough foods. I always pack many packs of sour plum seaweed in my bag.

8. Q:  How would you describe the atmosphere during the shoots?
A: When we are standing by in the studio, there is plenty of chit-chatting among the cast, a harmonious atmosphere. I think it's an atmosphere that I can chill in.

9. Q: Your final thoughts for the viewers who are looking forward to enjoying Perfect Report.
A: I hope that viewers can draw positives from this drama. The drama has a stand-alone story per episode, and it's something that is easy to watch. So please, I hope that all of you can try watching it.
